I am training for a triathlon

I have bi-lateral primary lymphedema in both my legs and this is my first time I am doing an endurance event. My measurements are down and I am doing surprisingly well. The triathlon that I will be doing is the Capital of Texas Triathlon which takes place on May 25, 2009. I am training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training Program. Are there any other people who have lymphedema that do endurance events that are on this site? I would be happy to share stories. If you would like to make a donation my website is: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/txtri09/rsilletti
I am on Facebook, my name is Rosie Silletti and my group for the triathlon is "Gonna Fly Now," which is available by invitation.

good luck to ya! I did one of those a couple years ago. The biking to running transition is brutal! Are you going to wear compression garments during the race?

hI adam,
thanks for your response. its nice to meet you. i am planning on wearing custom compression kneehighs with toecaps after the swim. however, i feel like i will be hot because the event is in austin on may 25th. what type of compression garments did you wear?
best, rosie

I wore two jobst men's over the counter 30-40mmhg thigh high garments on one leg with Jobst custom toe caps underneath throughout the race.

One garment wasn't tight enough and I didn't want to wear my custom stocking because it was too expensive to be worn during activities like that. I have venous insufficiency on top of lymphedema so the extra compression was really more to help blood flow than LE, although I guess they're kind of related.

Did you wear a wetsuit? Was it constricting for your leg?

No, just a speedo. My triathlon was shorter than the one you are doing though.
