Well, it's been years since my last visit to these boards, and I never thought I'd be back here but I am
I had a bout with mild Lymphedema in my right leg after my cancer, surgery/treatments. I got in to a LE therapist quickly and we were able to get my leg back to normal size and with wearing garments I was able to maintain this. After two years, my leg became pretty much Normal all the time, and only swelled slightly when I stood too long. 16 months ago during our relocation to a new State, I injured my right knee, turns out I tore the meniscus. Without insurance to fix the meniscus I spent several months on crutches and slowly started walking and weight baring. I've learned to live with the pain, (sometimes excruciating) in my knee, but the swelling progressed and over a year later, my right leg has become 8" larger than the left....It has occurred to me, just recently, that my swelling is not from the knee, but rather, I believe my LE has come back with a vengeance. I guess I've silently known what it was, but I was in denial thinking I was "cured" from my LE. I guess that the injury to the meniscus has triggered the LE again. My leg, (thigh mostly) is so tender to the touch and even a cat stepping on my lap can send me crazy in pain. the tissue is so hard and I actually feel like a few hard lumps under the skin, one of them on the inside of my thigh is about the size of my fist. I also feel as though I am having some fluid retention in my lower right abdomen and you can see the puffy swelling there. I went to see a Dr. at our local Good Shepherd clinic (no insurance, no Dr. in new State) and she has been very nice and was trying to get me some help. She got me an appt. with a LE therapist in town, and they told her, they would see me at reduced fee.....When I went for a consultation, ( $70 )I was told that they could do MLD and wrapping for a reduced fee of $65 a day and they believed it would take 4 to 6 weeks daily visits....I don't have that kind of money, as I haven't been able to even work since relocating due to my knee injury and not being able to walk much. I need advise of what I can do at home to help myself. I just sold my Antique glass collection so I can go on line and order myself some bandages. I don't even know if I can do this by myself, but I will try. Anyone able to offer me any advise....Don't even suggest O'Bama Care
Thanks for any advise. PS. I did go on youtube and studied videos on MLD and will try and do it on myself as best I can.
