glossary:immunological_tolerance

Immunotolerance - recognition of “self”, the phenomenon by which the immune system normally suppresses immunological responses to cells of the body, ie self-antigens. In diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, this mechanism is faulty, and the body is attacked by its own immune system.
