(1) A synthetic triazole with antifungal activity. Voriconazole selectively inhibits 14-alpha-lanosterol demethylation in fungi, preventing the production of ergosterol, an essential constituent of the fungal cell membrane, and resulting in fungal cell lysis.
(2) An antifungal type of antibiotic. It treats serious fungal infections found throughout the body. These infections include aspergillosis, which is often found in the lung, and other types of mold or yeast infections. Generic voriconazole tablets are not yet available.
